Principal's
Message

Dear
Roosevelt McGrath Families,
It is always amazing how quickly the school year flies by. This
always hits me around the beginning of the new year. As I visit
the classroom daily I continually notice how our students have
grown academically, socially and physically since the Fall. It
is wonderful to be part of their development and part of the Roosevelt
McGrath Learning Community.
Reading is like all other skills in that it must be learned and
practiced. The more it is practiced, the better we get at it.
Getting children to read is a real challenge in our modern world.
The competition of television, electronic games and a variety
of competing activities makes reading a low priority in many homes.
Parents, grandparents, and even older siblings can be very influential
in changing this picture. We can read to our children often and
listen to them read. This simple practice at home can mean the
difference between having a child who is successful in school
and one who is not. If you and your child do not have a library
card from the local library, make it a priority to get one this
month. Winter is a great time to curl up with a good book and
experience the joy of reading a good story.
Our School Improvement Planning team meets throughout the year
to look at data and adjust our goals, focus and strategies.
Listed
below are Roosevelt McGrath’s academic goals:
All
students will show growth in their math skills across the curriculum.
Students will improve their skills for reading and interpreting
graphs.
Students will improve their skills on measurement, time, and money.
All students will increase their reading comprehension skills
across the curriculum.
Students will improve their skills for predictions, summarizing,
questioning and monitoring while reading.
Students will regularly employ thinking maps.
All students will become proficient writers across the curriculum.
All students will improve their writing skills while using the
Lucy Caukin’s Writing program.
Students will recognize the main idea and details within different
genres.
We
here at Roosevelt McGrath strongly feel that a good school environment
is created by family support and involvement, a committed staff,
and responsible students. Our motto says it all, “Together
Everyone Achieves More” (TEAM). We appreciate your support
in helping Roosevelt McGrath being a wonderful learning environment.
Sincerely
Yours,
Mrs.
Linda Hammond
